Am I psychic? Nope… I know how you are feeling because, just a few years ago, I felt the exact same way.

I was angry. I was doing everything right and still being blamed.

I was done.

And as I began packing up all the things I bought over the years to help me ‘make a six figure income easily’, it hit me…

I was using these blueprints and programs as my complete bible (some of those ‘gurus’ told me to, right?). It wasn’t their fault. It was mine. I was sucked into the glitz and glamor of the ‘gurus’ and had forgot to listen to who mattered… ME.

And at that moment, it all changed… no more costly, demoralizing failures in my business AND no more desperate running in circles, spinning plates and trying to be superwoman in order to spend more time with my family… ever. I was determined to create a business so it worked for me and my life – with plenty of money and plenty of time to care for my two little ones.

So I went back to the basics: the skills I learned in my communications and marketing classes as an undergrad and graduate student (Yup, I have a masters degree in communications and when I started my own business, I forgot to use it!); the tactics I used as a TV anchor and reporter, as well as a PR pro for Fortune 500 companies; and I went back to using my intuition (we call it ‘street smarts’ in the media biz) to create the business of my dreams.

Today, my business is just another aspect of my life – not the all-consuming, unprofitable time suck that it used to be. And it’s amazing the change that has happened in just a few years (my girls are just in Kindergarten!):

• I’ve co-written three books – two are Amazon Bestsellers, one held on to the top spot for more than six months! (And I’m working on a three book deal as we speak.)

• I get other companies asking me if they could pay me for the privilege of doing the marketing I am already doing. (Yes, that’s the beauty of sponsorships: corporations hand me big checks to be a part of what I am already doing!)

• I’ve met and worked with some of the most amazing, successful entrepreneurs (some of them you may know – and some of them you don’t) who have helped me learn more about my ‘secret sauce’ and how to bottle it and sell it. (Investing in yourself as an entrepreneur is an important step in getting the freedom you want – and I invest in myself without going into credit card debt!)

• I don’t worry about making ends meet month after month because business makes more than enough money to pay the bills and have fun. (Believe me, I remember the times when making just $1000 a month was a struggle!)

• I only work about 25 hours a week – and that doesn’t include the time I take off for travel, several vacations, and long lunches with my husband. (I call Fridays my free days because I am free to do whatever I choose without worrying that work has to be done!)

• I’ve appeared in more than 200 media outlets, places like: ABC-TV, Fox News, PR Daily, Newsweek, BusinessWeek, the Associated Press, Parents, Parenting, to name a few. (Of course the thrill of my life was meeting my goal to be in Entrepreneur magazine… and I got to do it with my little girls featured in the photo!)

• I’m thrilled that I’m home for my girls every day when they get on the bus in the morning and get off the bus after school. (There’s nothing better than seeing their smiling faces every day when they come home from school ready to tell me about their day!)

• Speaking about school, my girls (and their teachers) can count on me to be there for every event or just to pitch in on field trips and other activities. (I NEVER have to worry about getting work done because it IS done. And I never have to ask permission from a ‘boss’ to go to school to watch my kids sing or play a game.)

• I don’t have a lick of debt in my business. I don’t use credit cards or loans to finance anything! (Actually the only debt we really have in our lives is our one and only mortgage for our historic Victorian home that’s been featured in Better Homes & Gardens and Ladies Home Journal.)

And the hotel is charming in its own right. Created in the gilded age, this hotel still boasts unique, Victorian inspired rooms where every room is decorated differently (talk about unique and authentic!). Back in the day, the Vanderbilts often vacationed at the hotel, and today, the New York City Ballet dancers call it their summer home.
